Roll-on with the new turf at Frankland Park Sporting Facility

15 February 2021

A re-elected McGowan Government will deliver $150,000 towards the installation of new roll-on turf at the new Frankland Park Recreation Centre and ovals project.

The Hammond Park Junior Football Club contacted me with a request for premium turf to be installed at this new development and that this could impact their plans to move across and start training and playing games at the new facility.

That’s why a re-elected McGowan Government will contribute to this project so that a higher quality turf and facility can be delivered and local sporting clubs like Hammond Park Junior Football club can transition across to the new facilities.

The Frankland Park Recreation Centre and ovals project is due to be completed in late 2021 and will include:

  • A multi-purpose community sporting facility
  • Activity room
  • Function room
  • a separate club room for sports clubs
  • four changerooms
  • 150 car parking bays
  • Two AFL size sporting ovals
  • LED floodlighting
  • Seated retaining wall

Comments by Roger Cook MLA, WA Labor Member for Kwinana:

“As the local MP, I’ve always supported and encouraged local sporting teams and organisations. Giving kids and families the opportunity to participate in local sport is so important for health, general wellbeing and builds communities.

“The Hammond Park Junior Football Club have requested this premium turf product to be installed to provide the best turf for their players and users of the new facility in the Hammond Park area. That’s why I am proud to announce that a re-elected McGowan Government will contribute $150,000 towards this project.”

Comments by Mathew Smith, President, Hammond Park Junior Football Club:

“This commitment is amazing news for the Hammond Park Junior Football Club and its members.

"We have been advocating for the turf improvements to be included in the development of the Frankland Park Recreation Centre and ovals project."

“This project wouldn’t be happening without this commitment. We are very thankful that Roger Cook understands our club's needs and has advocated for this on our behalf.”

"To have a local member so enthusiastic about our club’s direction and eager to assist is amazing, so thanks once again to all."
